I did a thing - VW Transporter T6

And I made a box to go between the seats so the dog had a bigger platform to lie on (yes the seats need a clean)

Rear windows arrived for 2x sliding doors and 2x rear doors and a set of wheels and tyres from 4x4 Tyres.



I wanted Cooper Discoverer AT3 but they are hard to get hold of ATM (apparently) so went General Grabbers instead

And they are in, local windscreen fitter charged £180 to cut the holes in the doors and fit the 4 pieces of glass, at that price he was welcome to do it. New shoes on as well

Single seat base arrived to I could ditch the double front seat and fit the Tiguan passenger seat which should keep the wife happy

Adapter plate came from Transporter HA, not sure I'm entirely happy with what they have supplied but its in for now



While removing the original double passenger seat I found it already has the additional factory wiring for a 2nd battery, bonus




New AC pipe also arrived from VW along with some new fasteners and bits for the front bumper to replace the bodges by a previous owner, so front end off again, AC pipe installed and bodges unbodged

I have been scratching my head with the wiring for the drivers seat. Its out of a Tiguan, wiring on the seat base is all there but obviously the Transporter does not have the corresponding wires. Its go the memory function and it needs wiring into the BCM and the van being told its there for it to work. I did poke around with a power probe to see if I could at least get it into a position where it fitted me but no success yet. Time was not on my side as we were getting ready to go away so its now on the roundtoit list

I saw a cutaway Range Rover seat to display how they're made, I'm sure it had more wiring inside than the whole of my first car had!

Re-the seat, because it’s non standard don’t mean it can’t be sorted. Mines the billy basic van with originally, probably just electric mirrors, I ordered a BCM from a Caravelle, my coding guy made a sub loom as per VWs Erwin website and fitted the BCM, took the lower half of the dash and clocks out, repinned what was required and coded in the cruise control. The expensive bit is the BCM as everyone want the Caravelle stuff. I got lucky and scored one from eBay Germany for €166 or around £140. The coding and sub loom cost me another £140. If you are anywhere near Norfolk he’s worth a visit. He’s even done an overnighter for one guy and did the work at his house (obvs the guy paid his costs).
He’s done cruise on my Audi A1. Scirocco and a clock upgrade on my Caddy. He even wrote the code to a used key fob and I just had to sort the blade for the key.
Re-the loom, vw sell what they call repair wires and you can buy them with the correct pin on one end, you’ll need the crimper and pins/plugs for the other end.

Not updated for a while, but have been doing stuff

@Exuptoy yep H4 headlamps are appalling, was giving a mate a lift and he kept asking me if the headlamps were on

There are a few revisions of the dual H7 lamps, the best ones are revisions F or G, earlier ones suffer with DRL bulb holder failure. You can buy the revised bulb holders but they are £30 each


I had been looking for a reasonable set of dual H7s with either Rev F or G and they were surprisingly hard to find for reasonable money. Eventually a pair popped up on FB for £100 with Osram Nightbreaker bulbs, downside they are in Weston-super-Mare but cheap enough to drive there and pick them up

Fitted and coded so dip stay on with high beam. While the single H4 lamps are abysmal the dual H7s are awesome

The van was also missing its undertray, they are only plastic but do cut down on crap covering the engine. More of a concern is the AC pump is the lowest part of the engine

Ordered this steel one from eBay and fitted before Christmas




Not overly impressed with the fit, the stepped section at the front isn't right but will do for now as it rests against the subframe

It may not have been missing the under-tray, they were an optional extra after about 2012
Even on the 4motion. remember talking to sales guy from Vindis and he said it was embarrassing to have to get customers to pay for such basic things!!

Annoyingly, tow bar prep is an option mine doesn't have, so instead of just plugging the tow bar wiring to a connector above the rear wheel arch and telling the van its there, I have to run a loom from the tow bar, all the way under the vehicle to the engine bay. There is a section that T's off through the floor under the passenger seat and another that goes through the bulkhead to the BCM

Annoyingly, tow bar prep is an option mine doesn't have, so instead of just plugging the tow bar wiring to a connector above the rear wheel arch and telling the van its there, I have to run a loom from the tow bar, all the way under the vehicle to the engine bay. There is a section that T's off through the floor under the passenger seat and another that goes through the bulkhead to the BCM

Who's kit have you got, PF Jones? the wire that tells the BCM is only for the silly light in the dash. got a 2009 4 motion and its never been a problem.

A mate of mine bought a Morris 1000 pickup back in the day. He went to the dealership and, liking a deal, he nailed the salesman right down on the price. No optional extras for him!
When he went to collect it, he couldn't find the spare wheel, jack, or wheel brace. "All optional extras sir!"
When he got in it to drive it home,he noticed there was no heater, or passenger seat either. Both those were optional extras too.

Yep, PF Jones, mine has park pilot reversing sensors, not sure if the BCM stuff is to turn them off when you are reversing with a trailer

I have moved my trailer around and they are bloody annoying when reversing the trailer

And I have not attempted fitting of said loom, I keep looking at the inside of the van and could I run it through the van rather than underneath

For as much as I am largely indifferent to these vans, I like the look of this one

Regarding the spec, I did have a 2020 for five years until August last year (hence my staggering indifference)
Due to world events it was available as a lease very very cheaply, however when it was ordered someone took the options list and threw it in the bin

My reasons were practical, I wanted space, ability to tow 2500kg and AWD which kinda narrowed down the search

Having had a D3 which ticked all of my requirements and was hands down my favourite car ever, I would have gone D4 but didnt want to play Russian Roulette with the engine. Yes, I know they don't all snap cranks. I do have 3 good friends with D4s, one has just had a new engine at huge cost
