#they work better if there fastened down
No they are easier to "relocated" when not fixed to a work top.

The F9a is listed as 144lb, the F8 is listed at 74lb, it's a fair old jump in weight
My 38a J with swivel base is a mere 85lb all in but at least I can just lift it !
@Vono
You will need a decent bit, impact driver and some heat to remove the jaw screws.
The screws holding the spring plate on are 1/4UNC and can be a bit tight. Heat and oil will shift them.
If the quick release works good, don't try to strip. The little screw will break.

start collecting them & bunging a vice in every available corner
Just been outside playing with it, very impressed. It's like a Rolls Royce, can't believe how well built it is...
That is a good idea.
Told you the Parkinsons are quality.
That's not helping with my "vice addiction"
144lb wow that's crazy !
Dunno if the weights varied over the years, I think my No8 is quoted in a Buck Hickman from 1913 as 77lb (maybe the earlier ones are a bit heavier??) Either way it was enough for me to struggle lifting it
If you get a 9a do please post a pic, i'd love to see it !
I do like the 38a's they look great, considering it's steel 85lb is still a fair old weight. Any chance of a pic ?
