Been familiarising myself with my lovely Colchester Triumph roundhead.
Struggling to get a good surface finish. Feedrate just too high. It's fine on the cross slide. Too slow if anything. I know the cross slide feed rate is 1/2 the carriage feed rate but in my case it was 10x slower.
Only discovered last night after reading the manual that the leadscrew is ONLY for screw cutting. I wondered why there were two spinning shafts
So now I have discovered the big obvious handle on the carriage is only for screw cutting I am a happy bunny. Nice slow feeds and high chuck speeds are giving me a nice finish at last. Well nicer anyway!
