Hi folks. Well, had a bit of a kick in the nuts this week. I had previously refurbished 3x compressors (all 3hp belt drive, there's a build thread I did for one of them) and sold them off in preparation for our long-awaited house move. Plan was I was getting a massive workshop in the middle of nowhere where I was going to fit a 2x4hp tandem compressor.
The house sale fell through. Then we found another and it fell through too. So stuff it, we're staying put for a few years.
That leaves me needing a new compressor. But I need as much air as I can get and I need it to be relatively quiet (terraced house with integral garage and lots of neighbours). Space is also a factor, so the 270litre 2x4hp compressor I had my eye on just won't fit.
I'd previously planned all the tricks: belt drive, car exhaust intake, isolating feet and an enclosure. But given the amount I'm saving by not moving, I'm looking to splash a bit of cash on this and am considering a 'silent' or quieter compressor - one example is this one from Clarke. But its only 3hp (I'd prefer 4hp for the blast cabinet) and given the amount I'd be spending, am I better looking at a hydrovane?
I'm finding the hydrovane range quite tricky to understand.
I'm on single phase, but have a dedicated 30A supply for the compressor (rewire was sorted before we planned to move). I'd ideally like 11/12CFM (FAD not displacement) and would like it in quite a compact unit that could fit under a bench.
From what I can tell there is no 3.0kw (4hp) hydrovane and the biggest single phase one is 2.2kw (3hp) in the HV-02. Unless there's some weirdness about their specs then it only produces 8CFM FAD. The big plus is that at 69db its quiet enough and its incredibly compact so would fit under the bench (if I need a bigger tank I can add a receiver in the corner).
Unless there's an alternative manufacturer that anyone could recommend? After some tips really, the funds are there and I'm ready to order. A good refurb may be better value of course.
