The stuff I use at work is a wheel cleaning product. It is concentrated and supposed to be diluted when using on wheels. I cant remember offhand, but Im sure its hydrochloric. I use it concentrated for descaling the black carbon on 10mm sheet steel. Lethal stuff!
I will look tomorrow for the name of it, when at work. I havnt seen it in a highstreet store, but we have it delivered by an autospares company.

It's also known as spirits of salt.
Mine comes from France where they sell it in the supermarkets for about a quid a litre. It seems to be a normal household chemical over there. It's 23%. I dilute it about five times for stripping galv. Also good for limescale as long as there's no metal in sight.

'Treble X' is the stuff I use, from Autosmart. 10-30% hydrochloric.

Easiest to buy it online from a chemical supply company, or if you have a decent chemist - normally a private run pharmacy rather than a chain - if you speak to the pharmacist and explain what you want things for and it is legal for them to do so, they will order it in.

Coincidental just been on the local news, 10ltrs of hydrochloric acid had escaped from a container in to a drain. Wow, occupants advised to keep windows and doors shut after fire brigade thinned it down.

fractional distillation is hard with typical kitchen/garage equipment.
I'd use fractional crystallization - most kitchens have freezers.
But I have to ask - WHY??

Clean aluminum with acid?
I've used it to dissolve aluminum. Had a failed con rod in a mower engine; remnants stuck to crank. Hydrochloric acid took all the aluminum right off. A drop fell on the case, wiped immediately and left a divot
