What sort of pressure and flow are you looking for? I don't know what the electric pumps push out but I doubt they are very hefty, if your looking for log splitter style performance your going to need a real pump, cylinder and all the associated kit to make it work.

The best briquette maker ive seen uses 3/4 ton pressure. So im looking for something in that region.

That should be easy enough to achieve with a bit of scrapyard engineering. What are the briquettes for?

somewhere in the shed i have a small 230v pump and a ram that i was going to use for something untill the plan changed

Have you thought about a tail lift? You can get them cheap on ebay. And it will have the power pack , hydrolic hoses and the ram or rams depending on style. Could be a option for you. A 1000kg lift will have a running pressure of 130 bar +

What are the briquettes for?

For a wood burner.
Its more for "family time" if hat makes sense. My youngest kids will love messing with the soggy paper and filling the would. Id like to go pneumatic/hydraulic so they can push a button/pull a lever and watch it work. Hence trying to do it on a small budget as its a want rather than a need.
