Need some advise please with a Hydraulic theme
Got the pictured 8 ton ram and want to convert it to run from a pump but unsure how to adapt the mechanism currently employed to push the ram out.
Suggestions please.
Pretty sure you'd be better selling it and buying a ram designed for use with a pump. The one in the pic only works on the out stroke (single acting) and relies on gravity and the weight of the engine crane or similar it's used in to push the ram back in.
The piston is squirting the oil into the ram so, if you remove the piston and put a pipe union there this will be right for the inlet. When you release the pressure via the normal valve, the oil will flow into the reservoir, which would overflow, so a low pressure pipe must run from that outer reservoir to the oil supply for the new pump. Your external pump will need to be of the right max pressure and have a pressure relief valve. Personally I would try to get a ram ready for use with an external supply.
