hyd clutch slow to return , experts please

Weird. Don’t think it matters, can you see the ‘bulkhead’ / pedal box moving?

My mini the metal arm, the hole became elongated.

So it was two holes if that makes sense.

Can you put old slave cylinder direct to master cylinder. Even if you have to buy random brake hose to do.

Flexy pipe expanding?

Is there any adjustment? For reference old mini adjustable it wrong, pushed crank out the block.

Is it possible it’s “too much”

For test can you, “Mount the slave cylinder on some Dexion”. To give it wiggle room?

flexi is now a braided nlyon from H.E.L

nothing is adjustable....although as mentioned theres a few mm difference in the slave rods , doesnt seem to make much odds

ive set it all up on the bench with an alternate fluid tank minus the pedal ,all bled and worked like it should imo, transfered it over the car without disturbing it

nothing worn /flexing that im aware of

Stupid thought of the day.

Can you loosen the master cylinder bolts, then see if it ‘moves’

Thinking like a bent axle on a bicycle. It moves up/down.

For testing can you replace the pedal with bit of angle iron?

i had to make a longer rod on my cabstar slave which bolts to side of bell housing as the truck would creep when clutch fully down, from what i remember it was only about 10mm longer and it cured the problem...dont know but the only thing that could of caused it was too much end float on the crank as she had done 225,000 miles.

cant say i feel any over center feeling , apart from my gripe about the last bit of travel it just feels neutral like any other hyd clutch - before i swapped all the new parts on it didnt do this , it felt old and tired but the pedal returned as it ough


Also is the point when the pedal stops returning is the rest just stay slack? ignoring the return spring. not understanding this bit sorry

I think the question is, is the spring on the pedal bringing the pedal up higher than the hydraulics - ie is the pedal now not in contact with the master cylinder pistion, is there a gap between pushrod and master cylinder piston?

How does the push rod attach to the pedal?
If it's to one side, have you got it the right side?
Is it simply the return spring isn't strong enough?

My Dodge has a damper in the clutch hydraulics - slows the engagement for Americans not used to manuals (not my words, words on US owners forums) - removed by undoing the hose, screwing a self tapper into it and pulling it out the pipe. Removing it stopped me slurring the clutch anyway - pedal would come up as fast as you lifted your foot, even faster if you side stepped it, but the actually hydraulics came back rather slower.

My Lancia has one too - at least, it's described as a "damper" in the Lancia workshop manual, but it seems to simply be restriction free passage in a metal block that acts as a go-between the flexi to the clutch and the hard line from the master cylinder.

thats an idea , not sure how to determine whats going on...but shouldnt the spring ping it up like it does when disconnected ?

fits via a pin and clevis , cant get it wrong and not adjustable

spring seems pretty good , i think its whats called over center? its either pinned to the floor or up high with the master disconnected, comes up fast and with some force , although i wondered about trying an additinal spring too

You would think so - unless the push is tied to the master cylinder piston - which I can't recall any of my cars being like that. So rubbing on a rubber boot, on the circlip retaining the master cylinder piston?

A better way of putting it is, when the pedal eventually fully returns does the clutch lever move as well.

Have you compared it to a known good car to see if the pedal heights are similar?

It could be something stupid like a pedal stop missing.
