I have not been doing a lot recently as I try and learn about software defined radio, plus work getting in the way as well. So today thought I would have a go in the garage at a bit of plasma cutting. Found the compressor had a broken copper pipe that goes from the pressure valve to the top of the pistons, still got to solve that but found a work around, need to get some 6mm tube.

Was pleased no problems with the cutting.

Not that I think the season is over commercial in anyway!

You going into production? I'd love one of those, maybe a little bit smaller. My mate's daughter sent me this on my 70th.......

I will see about making one smaller, may have to do the Bah and Humbug on different lines otherwise the holes in the letters gets a bit difficult if it gets too small.

You will be able to knock them out soon yourself, if you are good with wood, start thinking about making forms to follow by hand.

I got bah humbug socks for Xmas one year, first time i’ve Enjoy getting socks as a present. I got grumpy git mints another year, think they’re trying to tell me something?

How big across is that one? Might be better/easier for you, rather than 'shrink' it all. PM me with details and costs if you prefer.

And your confidence in my ability to come to terms with the plasma is touching...... I have a band-saw, jigsaw etc and plenty of MDF/ply bits so will get thinking.

Gone from 350 mm'ish tall to 240 mm'ish.

I'll do a trial cut when I fix the compressor.

I have it planned for a passport size picture in the middle, the lettering may be to tight for my plasma but I will give it a go.
Diameter is 174mm.

You see you give me an inch and....

I also cut the "MOG" above but I was correct in that the lettering was a problem, where there is nothing supporting the tops of the letters the steel melts away during the cut.
It will have to be done a bit bigger.

Very nice. Which programs do you use to draw up the file ? I'm looking for a simple one to start using.

I use a package called Qcad, there are Windows and Linux versions, I use Linux at this end.
There is also a free version and a paid Pro version with 12 months updates and extra features. Not sure if the package is easy, just something I have got used to, it is 2D.
I noticed your post in the Plasma section I can not provide any answers on that as I built this little desktop one I use.
I also use Sheetcam and Mach3. I know Mach3 is old and no longer supported as mach4 is out there, I think I will go across to Linuxcnc eventually.

HEHE !no wonder its broke Adrian, with all that up and down movement!! even with along loop for strain relief.



But seriously now... if making one I extended mine by quite an amount to help stop fractures and ran it round by the motor fan and put several loops round the vent meshing so that cool air is drawn over it, also a longer pipe also helps with cold starts , coz it takes several piston pumps before it 'sees' tank pressure allowing the motor to achieve more speed, thus lessening amp inrush... Then you can rubber mount the pump to quieten it...

Must admit I am a bit at a loss as to how I am going to fix it, it did split in the middle of the loop. I have 8mm copper does not seem to be that easy to get small lengths of 6mm microbore locally, was thinking of sleeving with some 8mm and soldering together.

I notice a lot use a plastic type pipe, but I would then need swaged ends to fit under the screw caps, other then that lengths of air hose and jubilee type clips over 6mm pipe stubs.

Thanks Adrian , I've been looking at the sheet cam, think I'm going to go with that. Lots of info on the net on this.
