i see you follow matt as well
As well as Trail Mater and Fab Rats
I had a 2L Turbo 940 (Wentworth) - probably the best car I've ever owned. Went like stink in proper turbo fashion, superbly comfortable and the boot was huge. I went to a V70 turbo afterwards, thinking it would be 'the same but better', but it wasn't. Boot was nowhere near as big, too 'plastic-ey', less comfortable, less fun to drive and as thirsty as hell. Would love a 960, but they are even thirstier!I find myself looking for a 2.3 turbo 940 quite a lot these days.
Volvo made some good cars back then (still do really) but i loved the old RWD 200/700/900 series era cars. Agree with your analysis completely and your reasoning is why i said the turbo 4 pot rather than the v6 too (plus they are all autos and I just prefer the manuals)I had a 2L Turbo 940 (Wentworth) - probably the best car I've ever owned. When we compared side by side the XC70 is cleaner...the superb had side panels which made it a lot narrower. On paper it's smaller (litres) than the Superb, but the photos show it is a huge space without all the nooks and crannies
They do look big, bloody fast as wellI pulled up next to a new v90 the other day...it made my Hyundai Tucson look like a fiat 500...the thing was vast!
I had a 2004 110 TD5 from new. That experience taught me that they are not long distance machines unless you enjoy pain, being deaf, frozen stiff in the winter, having a broken spine, and all your fillings shaken out. Fine as a toy, especially with a Cummins in it, but no good as my only vehicle.Okay, the green oval is out. How about a well sorted Rover 110 station wagon? Pre JLR. Basic, serviceable, low depreciation, some are only a couple of years away from historic tax and ULEZ exemption.

Oh, and I've a P2 V70 2.4 Diesel. Superb load hauler. Proper estate.
Very nice, just add one of these and you'll be all set.:....V70 boot may not be the biggest but still very sizeable. Here is a friends pic. He's had it 10y and also tows with it. Says its a proper workhorse View attachment 400548
Horse boxes and sheep trailers are purpose built. Suspension (shake poor sod to death) and caging/ventilation would be the criteria. But it must be permissable?Pets are allowed to ride in a trailer no ?
Very popular in Germany.Horse boxes and sheep trailers are purpose built. Suspension (shake poor sod to death) and caging/ventilation would be the criteria. But it must be permissable?
You do have camper trailers ?Horse boxes and sheep trailers are purpose built. Suspension (shake poor sod to death) and caging/ventilation would be the criteria. But it must be permissable?
i run an oldish (1998) e class (S210) merc, and the boot is more than big enough for just about anything you can throw in it.... it may not *technically* be the biggest in its class etc, but thats due to the roof line sweeping down towards the back (my thoughts, may not be 100% true!). certainly the boot footprint is massive, but bizzarely it struggled with a sofa my old mk3 mondeo estate swallowed with ease..... certainly when we go away for 'family' weekends, better half, my folks, dog (25kg of labramongrelie or some other such stupid name for a 'bitsa') and all luggage gets swallowed with comparative ease, again, way more easily than the same trip in the mondeo estate.....
Old enough to be cheap and 'disposable' if they go wrong, but tbh, other than rust (and they CAN rust!!) theyre pretty reliable, and unless you *actually* know cars, theyre pretty 'modern' looking, so customers etc dont look at you funny.....
cant think of much else that will compete with it space wise, unless you go up to 'van' sized (t5/6 etc).... maybe chrysler 300 or something might be a bit bigger actually, no idea what they sell for these days? Cant honestly see you get any more space in anything discovery flavoured, although obviously much high road positioning, if thats your thing, plus youll get to make loads of new friends with various AA/RAC men...... 110 station wagon would give you more space, but fails a bit on the 'practical daily' ime.....
Yeah it’s a strange request, the Superb is easily the biggest and most practical modern, mass market estate. So the Superb is too small, you don't want a big 4x4, mpv, pickup or van. What exactly do you want?
