My pal, who was a Site Manager before retiring, once ordered the Managing Director of the Company off his site because he wasn't wearing appropriate PPE, and yes, he did know who he was.

Don't care what their rights under law are, I have a legal responsibility for the safety of anyone on my site. until they show clear guidance in their site guides etc that clearly states the rules do not apply to them I will continue to insist they wear the same ppe and follow the rules they demand the rest of us do..... or sign the visitor book stating I have no responsibility or liability for them ... no one has taken me up on this offer yet.

If they get shirty I just ask to speak to their manager. ...

My first major fire and I was the Entry Control Officer. My training g said...NO ONE no matter who or why goes past your entry point.

The Chief Fire Officer turned up and wanted a conducted tour of the Premises. He and his entourage tried to get past me......no way Jose....he asked me if I knew who he was and I said yes Sir CFO but sorry you are not allowed past my entry point unless you are wearing BA.

He looked about to explode and instead he said what's your name son.....I told him and he turned on his heels and where he went I don't know. Not past my entry point anyway.


what I was not told was the rule has to be relaxed once the fire is extinguished as we then did what was known as comfort wears for protracted jobs.

Anyway a week later I was summoned to the Divisional Commanders Office. Fearing the worst after much ribbing about my actions I went in the office. I was then given a letter of congratulations from the training school commandant. Apparently the CFO had checked out what training we received on BA whilst on training school.

The commandant confirmed I acted totally to how I was trained and saw fit to send me a letter.

I thought the CFO had forgotten or dropped it but 4 years later whilst on a Station visit he pulled me on one side and congratulated me for following my training to the letter and wished me every success for the future.
These old guys had to be good to get to the top back then. Sadly now it's all about brown nosing and masons.....
