Ok so this is what I am trying to achieve
It’s viewed from the top.
Ignore the bottom’bar’ as that will be screwed or dowelled on.
I was expecting to need to cut from the face which adjoins the bottom bar to get the square corners. So from bottom bar to end of slot is 6mm. Hence 6mm deep cut wit rest of slot being 1.5 mm wide. It needs to be this orientation due to the shape of object I am piercing holes in.
Behind the punch face I can relieve with a larger bit. Does this make sense now?
