Hows my Weld?

Happy enough with my welding now to begin my first project. I am making a storage rack to store 2 meter steel lengths.

I am hoping the welds should be ok. What do you think?

look top of the range one thing to get "smooth" welds keep the torch at a good angle and try pushing where it suits you and other than that just keep the torch steady and supported and you should be fine.

your welds are really nice mate,i work with people worse than you. the only thing i would say is join al the welds up,the last picture there is a big gap.

I agree, your welds are very good now. I also agree in joining all the welds up.

I keep hearing that push migging is easier but i always seem to choose to pull when mig welding.

for short runs i use pull simply for ease of use but longer runs at higher amps i use push so i can see where im going

Thats a vast improvement Greg, You should be proud of what you've managed to achieve in a few weeks, Looking back at your very first welds makes me think you had pidgeons in your workshop

But now, you've done really well, Like the others have said make sure you join the welds up and don't leave any gaps, apart from that super job, well done!!

Pushing is better for a couple of reasons, you get better penetration and can also see your weld better.

I had a feeling it would give better penetration, i think this is why my welds are sometimes higher, going slower to get better penetration.

I really like the auto mask i have recently purchased from weldequip, easier to see where the wire is when starting the weld which makes it neater for me. I can see where im traveling better too due to the settings.

Thanks... Sounds like I am getting the hang of it now then. I was tacking the middle of the first few pieces. I have found it far easier tacking the corners now, which helps me get a complete weld. Got a few more pictures of my rack welds.

I am hoping this should be strong enough to store 2 metre steel lengths in.

Hopefully tomorrow if I get good weather. I shall weld the 2 metre cross sections on. I need good weather though, as I will need to paint it immediately. As I will struggle to get it back in the shed then. Even on casters.

Yes, they are looking real good now. Congrats, you've come a long way fast.

Getting much better, just need to work on your corners still. The welds there need to join up each other better.
