Hello,

hope everyone has had a great christmas!

I have been loitering for a couple of months as im looking to get a Mig welder.

Always wanted to learn how to weld and being into cars and bikes i have often needed something welded!

Will be on the hunt for a Clarke 160TM when/if a good deal comes up!

Look forward to learning lots from the forum instead of studying for my university exams

I've got two issues with my proposed clarke 160TM:
a) finding gas in the SW of London seems to be impossible, as i will only be using the welder infrequently so renting a bottle is not cost effective(so need to find out how long a disposable bottles will last and if the 160tm can be used with disposable bottles out of the box)
b) fitting a 16amp socket in my garage doesn't appear to be as simple as i initially thought

will do some more research!

7 minutes for the disposable bottles, you can buy the bottle for around £150ish from the likes of barnet welding supplies or BOC its innert so will last longer than you think

As for cars and bikes youl soon find any excuse to make and weld anything

Hi there,
Look at other posts & you will see most people run them off a 13a plug, you may blow the odd fuse, but for all but the top setting you will get no trouble at all. The 16a plug that MM say is needed is just to cover themselves. Just fit a 13a plug & a packet of spare fuses just in case.

Look at the Adams Gas web site for rent free cylinders £95 I think, including the first fill, there are local distributers, put in your post code. The 160tm comes with a reg. for argon mix cylinders.

either you guys are very nice people or sneaky people waiting for me to buy the equipment, fail miserably then put the items up for sale here so you can grab a cheap bargain

i'm kidding, its sounding more and more promising. now need to fabricate a welding table, have seen people mention metal covered wooden surfaces so may check those out
