How would you define yourself professionally apart from being a welder?

Was a Marine Engineer Officer with gold braid etc…….then an an oil riggy type person operations and fixing too. Now Im an alpaca farmer and holiday let fixer/ cleaner / gardner.

Really wanted to join the Royal Navy, but they wouldn't take me because I am deaf in one ear.

I have quite a few "professional" titles but when anyone asks I just say: Shopkeeper. It (mostly) stops any silly questions, until the inevitable "what sort of shop?" then we go around in circles for a bit. I will "officially" retire in three months so I have decided this is a good time to acquire my CEng qualification.

After 18 years in Architectural practices, a couple of years back I transitioned to a Construction Design Manager role. This is otherwise known as a Design and build manager and I now work for a contractor managing and leading their employed architects & engineers. I hold 2x professional charterships and looking at a third next all being well.

Beyond that I have alot of welding and classic car restoration projects at home, always did from I was a teenager.

I'm a marine engineer, (boat mechanic).

I do most things, but not wood bothering.

I started as a Metallurgist out of school, then did electronic engineering as I thought metallurgy outside for the steel works near home was a bit restrictive, for 10 years, then went fishing for 10 years, till I started to do what I do now. I call my self stupid, because if 'I was smart I would be doing something else' that's easier to do and pay's better. I do wood stuff and also fiberglass, not as often now. Most recently 'last two years' doing refits on boats, to go into the longline sector mainly. Hydraulics, refrigeration, recirculating water systems, generators and electrical stuff in general. I am trying to give up the boats as not as young or flexible as I was. I do also repair abrasive blast systems (pots and rooms) and also repair airless paint sprayers. So there description of stupid, enough said.

I’m an obsolete, well, retired , motor vehicle technician, not one of today’s so called technicians. I qualified when it actually meant something with an extra 2 years of college after qualifying as a mechanic . Did a welding course 50 odd years ago ,so sort of have an idea how to weld ?

Professional electrician by trade, inquisitive trier by nature
I used to weld 1/4" stainless steel plate on nights as a bowling alley mechanic but wasn't trained or anything, I'd just fire up the welder and blast out the Red Hot Chilli Peppers all night long
Been fixing motorcycles and cars since I was a teenager and I'm currently restoring my house so have done everything including brickwork, plumbing, electrical, structural, woodwork, kitchen fitting, bathrooms, drylining and decorating! That work is also a better standard than a lot of what's happening on building site these days by so called professionals...
