It's part of the table rise & fall rack on a meddings drill. It's cracked completely through where the black mark is. It's not under much stress, probably been broken for ages. Its function is to stop the rack bowing away from the column. As per the other thread it is likely cast iron so I plan to oxy propane braze it.
My brazing skills have got very rusty so what's the best way to proceed.
Do I vee out the crack & do I vee all the way around?
It there a good way to clean the surfaces I can't get to?
Do I braze from one side or will the filler run out when I turn it over?
Would it be better to heat the whole ring up to stop cracking?
Do I need to bury it in dry sand afterwards to slow cooling?
I've a similar clamp bracket on another drill to fix.
This one is broken completely though it still has enough grip to function. I would like to repair this but it's under a lot more stress so would braze be strong enough?
