Yesterday dawned bright and (surprisingly) dry. Having had a late night on Saturday, dining with friends and having awoken with a Grants Ale Cask Aged induced hangover, I suggested that we spend a leisurely hour taking breakfast at our local seafront, followed by a cobweb-clearing stroll along the beach. Naturally, it being a bank holiday weekend, the wife had other ideas. In fact, her plan could not have been farther from mine; I knew my day was ruined when she suggested (decreed) that we should spend the bulk of the day worshiping before the MDF altar of Ikea.
After two pounds worth of Swedish Full English breakfast - made with the same skill and attention to detail they bestow upon most of their furniture - we then embarked on the Yellow Bag bedecked trudge around oddly named lounge furniture and strangely sized linens. Just as the will to live was finally leaving me, we found ourselves in the 'Market Place'. Having been instructed that we were replacing our nice old conventional white crockery with square(ish) plates in a strange shade, I can only describe as phlegm, we finally found ourselves in the lighting section.
It must be said that the theme of crappy products, most of which will end up in a skip before even being opened, continues in here. Notwithstanding this, one odd little bin of light fittings did shine out (sorry about that!)
What I saw was this......

It looked like just the thing that I needed to enhance my Drill Press.
The Drill Press stands in a quiet corner of the garage and is not well served by the ambient light. I am aware that I could probably have bought a more expensive version - with a work light - but for the last year or so have been making do.
For a fiver, this seemed worth a punt - even if it didn't work out, it would only end up going the same way as most things purchased at Ikea!
Having got it home and after the addition of two small holes to the pulley cover of said drill press, I now have a great little swan neck light, which illuminates the 'table' nicely.

All in all, for the value it has added to working with this particular drill press, I'm really chuffed.
Admittedly, I do still question if it was worth the four or so lost hours - but looking on the bright side, at least I did manage to salvage something from the trip.
Now I'm off to chase peas around a square phlegm coloured plate. Deep joy!!!
