Thanks but I dont think you understand, his logic, if there is a '5% ' clause then, he is not overweight, per say, BUT they could 'do' him for not being covered by his license if a copper was pedantic enough to enforce the 3501kg license rule ? if it was he was only B+E??

As said it is such a mine field of misinformation, even from people who think they know the answers. this is similar to a guy who was stopped leaving the mot station and done for a bald tyre that I had passed and advised 5mins before it was measured by the ministry and found to be just legal but the police still tried to enforce it ! because it was devoid of tread on the inner edge.

I never had any bike lessons, don't think they had been invented in the 70's those were the days when the examiner stood at the side of the road while you did a few laps of the block.

More than one got run over, too.

My mate has another racing mate who has now had to get his CE ie artic, class1 license for his motorhome and trailer ! and has been driving it all over europe for years before having a major accident on a major dual carriageway bridge when the A bar snapped and hit several cars etc nobody questioned it the insurance paid out but when HE checked he was poss not covered by his pre97 license.

No I understood. Still dont think having a licence to drive bigger will help an infringement on a smaller vehicle.

They will either do you for over weight or they wont.

The licence is valid for the vehicle type they are driving even if it is over weight.

Licences use plated weights not real weight.

C&U used real weights.

So a 3500kg MAM vehicle actually weighing 3800kg would be a C&U offence not a licence offence.

If over 7500kg for the vehicle or the combined weight was over 8250kg then he needed the CE.

His C1E would cover under those amounts.

Or if the unit was over I think 30 years old.
