just to clarify though, don't you need shading for plasma cutting?

Plasma cutting? No I just wear a clear face shield, the arc goes through the workpiece so you do not really see it from the top.
There is an initial spark, but you can shield that with the end of the torch.
I occasionally spend half a day freehand plasma cutting with no problems.
Some guys I know wear gas welding goggles for plasma cutting, but I cant see the point in that.
But always wear a shield, you get the odd high velocity spark, I have a tiny scar on my eyelid from one of these a few years ago.

That's why I've always used washing up liquid, spread on thin then polish off with kitchen towel, works a treat!

I agree also its also great for stopping your Bathroom Mirror from steaming up

Thanks Chunkolini, i always thought it was necessary to use shading with the cutter. I have real trouble seeing what i'm doing whilst cutting so i usually use a straightedge or something clamped to the work (i only do boring straight lines) but i've got a clear face shield so i'll have a go with that next time.

As regards the steaming up issue, what about spit? it works in diving masks.

The way Air Powered masks keep steam free is to feed a mist of clean air over the visor, I think the Air Supplied masks work the same.

Rally drivers use original head and shoulders on their windscreens, same method as for fairy liquid above, paintballers also use fairy liquid to stop their masks fogging!

The fairy liquid idea DOES seem to work, but I have been told that it contains salt, so it will end up putting very fine scratches on the surface which will eventually make it very hard to see through.

I am inclined to believe this, as since I stopped using it on the visor on my crash helmet, there have been no scratches! I ride nearly every day, and I used to get through 2 or 3 visors and anti fog insterts per year (because they got so scratched they were useless), but I am still using the one that I bought last Jan!

It still gets covered in the same crap and grime, but I now use either visor cleaner or that soft hand soap that comes in a pump thing.

Maybe the soft soap will work as an anti mist thing too?

That idea stinks Washing up liquid doesn't contain actual grains of salt which will scratch plastic, it contains soluble salts.

when you applied the washing up liquid to your visor did you use the green scourer thing? that could cause scratching you know
