How to recognize slag inclusion by eye.

Hi every one,

I'm new welding inspector, I has start this job today. And i don't know how to recognize slag inclusion by eye.
Could anyone explain to me how to recognize them, especially by the pictures of them.

Rather worrying that you are employed as an inspector, but don't already know what slag inclusions look like

Can I suggest that you search a few google images at the least, and try and get some training. I hope that the products your company produces are not critical to life.

Reading all this back we come across as a bit unfriendly, me included, we don't know the op's situation, his request was polite and friendly so perhaps we can provide the help he requires.

Although I can lay a good arc weld, I am not the best person here to describe the full range of inclusion..any volunteer's whose job includes weld inspections.

its just a strange thing to ask when u have a job as an inspector but u have no formal training i do ark welding as a hobby and can tell a crap weld that has slag inclusion .its prety obvious . whats the odds on the op posting again

I thought you would have had to know your stuff to be an inspector, something like spotting a slag trap is a bit of a basic question, a welding inspector should already know this, anyone that has ever tried stick or gasless mig should know this, or even anyone that has even been slightly interested in welding and watched a few youtube videos of welding.

Come on. You'd expect someone with a job as an inspector of anything; meat, schools, public health, welding, (maybe not police) to have some knowledge of what they were inspecting, and it seems reasonable to suppose this would hold anywhere in the world. It's not surprising people think it's a somewhat ridiculous post. I'd even expect a welding inspector to know that it's possible for good looking welds to have slag inclusions which only appear on X-rays.

However, to be more helpful, I suggest the o/p searches on google using "arc welding slag inclusion" and selects images.

Got to agree with this totally. You'd expect there to be a pre existing knowledge of slag inclusion from some sort of previous training, this goes for anywhere in the world.

Well if plonkers are being pulled then I am sure the lack of intelligence required to do the task matches the individual doing the pulling perfectly and personally I won't lose any sleep over it.
