I am doing an evening course in welding, and we are starting on the mig next week.

We were shown a video last night, and the technique used to weld was different from the one shown on the site, ie. the welder was going in a straight line, unlike the video shown on here.

    Why is that ?

I'm waiting for experts to reply, but I'd guess that when doing the circular cyclone motion usually get thicker welds and less chance of burning through and guess it depends on what welder used

Will check for the right answer

A movement of the torch can help cover gaps on thinner materials. And on thicker, it will build up a bigger weld to fillets and preps.
