how to make galvanise look shiny again

Got a few old galvanised things here I'd like to put a bit of a shine on to sell

Ifor williams trailer etc

Any acids or anything i can spray on? ??

It's oxidation so I recon buffing up the top layers is the only way - but it's likely a waste of time and effort

Acids will rapidly remove any galvanising leaving the bare steel exposed. You could try painting the surface with strong ammonia solution and then washing. This will dissolve any oxides that have formed on the surface.

If I was coming to buy a galvanised trailer of any age I would expect to see the condition you mention and would not view it as a negative, if I was you I would just give it a light wire brushing and then a spray of WD40 to add a bit of a sheen.

You can get an alloy wheel cleaner from Smart Wheels which is very good but use it * very * diluted on an alloy body.

Personally I prefer to see them as they are and I'll tart it up if I need to.. but maybe thats just me.

Metal polish like autosol will clean and take the dullness off. But it won't become light and shiny again - as mentioned, it'd look wierd if it was too shiny anyway.

Galv is meant to go dull, it's doing its job. I would be suspicious if I saw it all tarted up.
