how to make flat steps non slip

I've just repainted my front porch [in a darker grey] to cover the Lidl floor paint and renewed the 'anti-slip' wide tape.

It has lasted years but was becoming 'scuffed' where folk dragged their feet when coming to the door.

I got a big roll off eBay and have enough for maybe another 2 x replacements when necessary. Works a treat, esp when rain/snow blows in to that area.

Paint mixed with coarse sand ?

I have used fine purple aquarium gravel mixed with deck paint. Worked a treat.
Used it on boats several times. Should work ok for steps.

yea could be..it was widely used in the 60,s right through to the 90,s...I used to have an Asphalt wagon and crew doing all educational buildings in the 90,s...crew started at 7.30am and i used to have a lad come in at 5am to light the Asphalt boiler which was part of the wagon...similar to this but a lot scruffier

there council steps

used to be concrete and then council put a tar surface over them

then they become lethal

nothing will touch them and the non slip is useless in winter if its frozen or snow on them

as ive had experience of them up here

would a cutting disk cut grooves to allow *some* grip?

not sure may let water into the ashphalt then it will peel off and make a big mess

you know it, most can not drive anyway give them a bit of snow its game over,

that goes for upstairs or downstairs any issue that you cause can come back at you for remedys being made to put it right

what is the substrate?
could you add some new treads screwed down through the asphalt to the underlying frame?

Our larder floors have a non slip resin coating on them. You don’t slip or slide even with crocs on! Might be worth looking at something like that

resin wont stick to bitumen. not much will, tbh.

are you sure ?

who owns the downstairs flat

as too my knowledge the council still own the steps the user only owns the flat and has access to the property

unless the downstairs has been bought out then it becomes both owners problem

the upstairs pays for the maintenance of the roof as there the ones at highest point whilst the lower flat pays for the sub floor area

both pay for the foundations of the property

the actual block of 4 maisonetts is lease hold so the lease holder actually owns both

You need specialist advice, sticking to asphalt is a nightmare
