how to fix a rusty leaky sump

Pressed metal Corsa sump is not gonna cost the earth - they sell them pattern thru Euros.

Don't think I would bother with a repair - just replace it.

Sadly, not an option when I had problems with mine, only source of a new sump was Vauxhall (probably a replacement engine) or perhaps Isuzu? RonA

When I bought my Mk6 tranny EX Tarmac tipper 10 years ago it was quite crusty, steam cleaned the underside to death, next morning oil everywhere, I had removed the rust from the engine sump and diff rear cover, pattern sump was no problem, diff rear cover was impossible to find used at that time and something like £120.00 from Ford , that got a lot of mig wire.

I bought a Mk1’s Golf that had thrown a rod & put a hole in the sump, I bought a secondhand engine but without a sump, so I beat the hole closed & welded it up. It never leaked.

I get what you're saying but I think it misses the point. I hate waste and enjoy welding!

wifeys ****roen sump corroded away . was better to get a new car than fix it I wouldn't even go in it or wear sunglasses if I did so no one would see me its one step up from an old skoda

I've got the exact same job coming up on a mates Shogun Sport, he had tried epoxy etc on it but still leaking. Similarly last time I had to do any work on it I had to drill the caliper carrier to get the pin out too!

I did an rear axle cover plate the other week.

Got it off - washed it down - the run some TIG braze over it in DC in pure argon - it is not leaking now.

Cost a few quid in rods - but it is thicker. Will last longer than two pack epoxy.

Er let me check just under 40 quid with the postage. It's got 3 jobs to do already.. the sump. The brake caliper slider pin hole and a winch repair. Let's see how good it is. I have never used anything like this before. Always gone for a proper repair but I got to get with the times and try it at least once I suppose

It's a bit "stiff" when you start mixing it and you think there's something wrong but it soon gets a bit more spreadable.

It's supposed to be mixed by weight......i usually just mix the lot and use it all up.

Ive not used Devcon for years, but have had great success with Belzona, in the work enviroment many times. Just follow the instructions espescially on preparation/ cleaning. We used to often repair erroded pump casings, corroded flangess, all sorts.

It's cleanned up ready the hole is little bigger than I expected. Not sure if I should blast a little bit of mig in the hole first.

Then go over with the devcon.

Made the hole bigger still setting 2 was too much and the sump was too thin. First time using the lowest setting welded up alright I think.

Devcon on the caliper carrier seems like it will do the job
