Very true . But only if you know how to set them up the best way. Seen to many folk setting fenns wrongly to think everyone knows how to do it.

Put a tactile switch in your glove finger or thumb. There won't be enough force on it to activate it until you grip the stock...

Not really practical as you don't always have your hand on the fore end of the gun and the torch is mounted on the barrel

Just use Gaffer tape and keep a tube of "Sticky Stuff Remover" handy

the glove idea wont work as i only have mmy hand on the stock when im pointing/shooting, the rest of the time the butt stock is usually resting on my hip with the muzzle pointing up and away at 70 ish degrees.

mk1 of the metal clip was made today...and promptly thrown in the bin as it was totally wrong...used a bit of old fiesta wing, flattened it out, cut a profile and bent it but its a touch too thick and i cut it a bit wrong.

mk2 on the way soon once ive found some thinner material

I was under the impression that a gun was traditionally held in the firing position using both hands, one on the fore-end... with the barrel pointing generally in the direction of the thing you wish to illuminate and shoot at. Are we talking about some sort of torch-cum-gun here instead?

Am I missing something? I thought the point was to light up the thing you were aiming at, not wave the gun vaguely skyward like some sort of Home Guard anti-aircraft weapon...?
Can you clarify at what stage of the mission the torch might be required? Is it to search for things to plink at or is it to do that dazzled-rabbit thing so you can get a shot? I must be misunderstanding the idea of a torch on a gun...

You are correct to a point but when you are walking about the gun is not held in the firing position

Just to clarify, the gun is only pointed at a target when a target is available...whilst walking around the gun is pointed in a safe manner (skywards) and when sat in cover the gun is leant either on the floor or rested on a leg. this allows the gun to be loaded at all times with no real danger.

The light is only used for a quick scan every 50-80 yards or if you can see, hear, smell a fox and you want to locate it/shoot at it.

I spend, on average, 3 hours walking around or sitting in cover to take one shot (maybe 2) and the light is on for around 10 seconds while scanning and the same when shooting, my left hand is usually on the fore end for the same amount of time, so if I scan 5 times and shoot once that is still only a minute of use, hence why I need a tactical switch mounted to the gun rather than just leaving the torch on...

Had a call this morning to go back up this afternoon as another fox has been seen near the chickens but as it's daylight I don't need the torch, and I'm taking a friend with an open licence and a .222with night vision (which is my preferred method) so my torch for the night will be a hand held infra red one if we get that far
