That about sums it up for me. Im a fan of the old Bachos. Offshore when west of shetland when we ordered adjustables if the bright cheap chrome ones arrives the often went for a swim due to how dangerous they were when a jaw breaks or they slip trying to undo gauled up stainless fittings.

I have a couple of adjustables, but rarely use them, scarred by threats of physical abuse as an apprentice if I ever brought one into the workshop, it still haunts me now every time I pick one up, I always stop and think ‘do I have a proper spanner that will fit?’

Similar, I once asked an agricultural mechanic, when do you actually use these over normal spanners?

When the breakdown is halfway across a field, and you can't be bothered to lug your kit that far.

I go for a close fitting spanner, but, sometimes.....
