Does anyone remember a Saturday night tv programme called 'You Bet'? they used to have people doing tricks with Fork lift trucks. We used to come in on the Monday and have a go at all of them. Picking a coin of the floor, Closing a match box with the front wheel by driving off a kerb and then reversing back without crushing the box. stuff like that. ( we were easily bored)

Why can't we have these Doubles - or even Triples - on Motorway port to depot runs? Then we only need 1/3 as many drivers.....................................

Because our roads aren't large enough to accommodate them, the infrastructure isn't large enough to allow for building up a triple trailer set up, the average artic driver would struggle with a rig that large, and the average idiot in a car has trouble keeping his/her car from underneath a single trailer artic so how would he/she deal with something twice or 3 times as long??

And don't forget that less lorries and drivers means less revenue for the tax man...

There’s a firm here that use one in the forest for hauling timber trailers

I can show you American roads that are just as twisty, up and downy and buttock clenching as any I've found in UK or Europe - I may have launched/lunched a few rentals over there enjoying myself

Probably the reason, as I suggested, why they have the designated parking by the interstates - run the big units on the wide freeways, back to the usual setup on the surface streets.

They manage perfectly well with B Doubles in South Africa. Just used on specific roads of motorway standard.
We ran them from refinery to primary terminals then artics with 'pups' (small trailers) to most depots or large customers, standard artics or rigids to small depots, small rigids to farms etc etc.

The accident record was fine. A single incident in my time of contractor's driver who turned one over on a slip road. But he would have done that with a little rigid anyway.
