Where in the property are they installed? Could be for activating buzzers to summon the Butler/Chauffeur/ Footman from 'downstairs'.![]()
They are definitely fuses,
its a sub mains fusebox used for lights .the neutrals are fused as well . was at a house 4 years ago that had them with lead covered rubber cable still working![]()
They are definitely fuses, above the door to the drawing room. No other bell or buzzer system visible
It's a good size house, other than a rewire in the 70's then being left for 30 years it hasn't been touched, the free standing bath and cast iron high level cistern are being restored
I have idly wondered occasionally- just how many people have been killed on the crapper by a falling cast iron cistern?
Very solid brackets

The live\neutral fuses were standard stuff when I was apprenticed the rubber VIR \ lead covered was also around on a lot of older properties you could remove the neutral fuses & nothing stopped workingwe used to love those re wires down the scrappy with it.
There was also wood trunking some with separate groves for individual wires, usually superbly fitted with capping panel pinned on,
As for servants bells with maybe buzzer & flag never saw any fuses in the circuit most ran of Accumulators or big round dry cells like these
