My boss had a similar one when I was an apprentice. Very good tool. Occasionally used to hit it with beltstick, which is essentially a lump of tarmac in a tube, you rub it on the belt while its running and it gets hot and sticky!

Don't know but just love it. There is just something special about old well made machinery.

Same as, its just "better" somehow,dont read that wrong some of the modern hi tech ultra accurate gear is mega.

We had a drill like that in a boatyard i worked in back in 81, its still in use. I love old cast iron machinery built to last. I had a 1930's Dankaert circular saw big old beast that could swing a 24" blade. It had a brass ruler set into the table & near the blade the deep engraving was completely rubbed away. I put a straight edge across the table & there was a shallow dip across ways of at least 1/16". If you were doing repeat cuts you had to keep flipping the timber over to cancel the error out. I got it as scrap from a closed down timber yard & had it for 15 years. Lord knows how many miles it had cut.

My dad has an old 3MT Jones & Shipman that's probably a bit younger than the OPs.
It was 3 phase up until dad retired when I put a reduction geared single phase motor on it. Cut the lowest back-geared speed down to about 24rpm.
