How much paint do I need?

I'm spraying cellulose on my VW camper. At this stage all I'm doing is painting from the gutter to the body centre line, so essentially only the window frames. It'll all be in the same white colour as present though I'll be putting down a layer of grey primer first.

My aim is to give it 2 coats of primer and three of top coat. Can anybody give me a handy figure for coverage in litres per square metre for these paints?

btw is grey the most appropriate primer colour to use?

not sure on the amount of litres but the paint shop should be able to tell you. and try and get white primer so your white top coat will cover easier.

I don't need that much right now but it'll get used when I paint the bottom half. Would it make sense to buy this now and use it all over rather than using white primer on the top?

I like to use a primer that shows how much I have covered, grey works for most colours. Top coat should be opaque enough to cover anything not too dark especially with 3 coats

id buy white primer if the top coat is white

If you are relying on the primer to get coverage it wont be a true colour.
Yes you will get coverage "faster" with the same colour primer, but you are not getting a true colour because you are actually relying on the primer colour slightly peeking through.

very true thats why all test spray cards are chequerd and various other black and white patterns
