How many models are there of the progress No1 drill ?

I think yours turned out very nice rtbcomp
I like the colour as its bright yet has the vintage look to it, makes it look like it could of left the factory in that very colour.
To use a more modern type colour you would have to go all out and do it metallic with a spray gun to make an old drill look right in modern colours.
I want to keep it looking like a proper drill from yester year, then I wont get an idiot asking if it can drill through a coca cola tin without breaking.

has it stood up ok to a bit of wear etc ?
what paint did you use ? and would you do it differently if doing again and why ?.

would be good to get that colour in engine enamel.

I blasted back to bare metal, primed & undercoat and finished off with "Winter Tide" gloss.

The tin says "Johnstone's Trade", the label says "Leyland Trade".

Don't use water based primer - it causes rusting!

You could always go to a paint shop and ask for a colour chart.

still not able to find anywhere with a list of the progress no 1 models.
I have seen 3 different ones called progress No1
and 4 different ones called new progress No1, all bench versions.

and does anyone know when the word new stopped being put on the name plates, or when it started. /
I have seen a very old green one called simply "the progress 1 " it looks lot older than the normal progress No1 drills..
I also cannot find exactly when Fobco started making the drills for Elliott, its documented they made them, but not from when.
and were some of the gamages drills the same as the elliotts or same as the fobco's ?

Heres another one for the confusion.

I dont care about its appearance, but it gets used a lot and I keep meaning to make a new feed handle, thats a round tuit it job though.
Quill is morse taper and you knock it out through the taper slot hole in the side, and my electrical contactor box is on the opposite site, and its not an add on, the base is cast into the head casting. The belt cover is held on from above by a stud and nut on top.
The plate says New Progress Drilling machine, and notes it was originally 3 phase 420v and has a max capacity of 1/2 inch, which goes along with the quill being 1mt. I have it in my head that its a New Brown brand rather than a elliot, but I cant remember why I think that.
The table is different again, it has a side face with slotted holes you can bolt tall things to, great get out of jail feature. Its does the usual tilting in the X plane underneath too.

Ive rebuilt the spindle with new bearings and it got new internal wiring a few years back, and now I just use it. If I need bigger than 1/2inch cap I just use the mill, because I dont want to be holding anything that has enough torque to snap a 1mt anyway.

I like the handwheel on the motor mounting. To me that would suggest it was an older model - newer "improved" models really meant cutting down on nice details to make them cheaper.
