I find the same problems when I'm Validating, There are people running around with a budget Multi meter asking welders to strike an arc and calling it a calibration. Obviously trying to compete with these idiots is pointless, I certainly am not that desperate for work that I would trade my skill-set and time off against rates set by these muppets!
The next one I'm facing now is BS EN 60974-4, I still don't think this has been around long enough for Auditors and the like to know what it is and to insist people have the checks carried out. I personally do it after every repair and advise people to have it done at the same time as their Validation but very few are interested and insist on just paying their PAT test guy a quid to stick a sticker on saying the machine is safe to use.
