How long do your calibrations take?

I find the same problems when I'm Validating, There are people running around with a budget Multi meter asking welders to strike an arc and calling it a calibration. Obviously trying to compete with these idiots is pointless, I certainly am not that desperate for work that I would trade my skill-set and time off against rates set by these muppets!
The next one I'm facing now is BS EN 60974-4, I still don't think this has been around long enough for Auditors and the like to know what it is and to insist people have the checks carried out. I personally do it after every repair and advise people to have it done at the same time as their Validation but very few are interested and insist on just paying their PAT test guy a quid to stick a sticker on saying the machine is safe to use.

John Ruskin wrote that a long long time ago ( I did the bracketed bit coz it's very relivent today there are products and services were higher prices sell better and quicker in the modern world)

It's basically checking that anything going in (mains) isn't coming out of the welding terminals, with insulation and leakage tests.
There are a couple of test circuits to build which are given to you int he BS spec, So I've built those.

Jim, we had a company come over , as know one on the rock does it.
Turned up in his car with a load bank , took about 10 -20 mins per set .

That is a bit quick,it can ten minutes to do a visual and set everything up!
