How hygienic is a fire extinguisher?

As in, once you've unscrewed the valve and washed out the water/addatives, could you drink from it?

I want to have a go at making nitro cold-brew coffee, the more normal way would be with a Cornelius keg but in the interest of saving a few quid, I've got a couple of 9L AFFF extinguishers and I'm not planning on burning anything down any time soon () so why not re-purpose one?

I could swap the gauge for a gas fitting and dispense with the conveniently included tap. The valve is stainless and brass so no problems there but I can't find a MSDS for the coating inside (PPA-665 apparently). Anyone know anything about it? Any anecdotes of drinking from one before and not dying?

Even if you recycle a powder can you will soon learn the different between cheep single ply and deluxe triply ply quilted.

You realy need stainless. I bet there's something in the dairy or micro brewing trades that could be adapted.

Even a stainless can is a not a good idea. The metal is not food grade. Some are just a chrome covering. But the foams and waters will still have a liner inside. A nice breeding home for bugs.

You realy need stainless. I bet there's something in the dairy or micro brewing trades that could be adapted.

If you make coffee with cold water its cold brew and quite refreshing on a hot day (Nothing like a coffee that's gone cold). If you pressurise it with nitrogen (Or helium, argon* etc) in a vessel like you would with beer some gas dissolves into it making it nitro- and changes the flavour a little. Costa do it (Not nitro as far as I know).

*Got a convenient source of that already.

That's better than but still has the same problem as my first idea of a coke bottle, I've got to cut an oddball internal thread to make a new lid with a valve and a connector (And ideally a gauge so I can keep an eye on it losing pressure).

Could you not just use the existing lid?

I was in Portsmouth yesterday, the new carrier, Queen Elizabeth is in, scaffold tents all over the deck. I asked one of the dock Naval bods what was happening, to be told the deck is being sorted. When it was shown on the TV programme testing the fire system they said it was highly corrosive, well apparently it was!

I've made a few stainless tanks by getting a lenght of stainless pipe and cutting out 2 discs out of sheet. Just use some food grade stuff and you know it'll be safe.

Key kegs are what you're thinking of. A mate of mine owns Beerblefish he may have some scrap kegs.

isi cream whipper.
I have a stainless one, 1l. Makes great nitro coffee plus all sorts of other stuff. Pea foam is also tasty.

Or use a beer keg. But smallest is 30l.
