I lost my job in June and have not been succesful in finding work despite countless applications, calls to agencies/recruiters. I'm always either over-qualified (most of the time) or not qualified. No way I'm going on JSA so I have registered as self employed. I'm starting up my own online retail business. I have owned a part time online based business before so I know how to run one. However I would also like to do light manufacturing but try as I might I just can't find a place for a workshop. We live in a small rented apartment so no room there for anything. Small industrial units are rocking horse poo and the few I have seen advertised are still way out of my league as a start up with no financing. I "might" be able to plonk a container at a friendly farmers but I can't declare that as a business expense. Strictly speaking I'm not even allowed to use my home address as a business address according to the tenancy agreement. What's a guy supposed to do? Just give up and sign on for JSA?
