It has to be solderable with standard plumbing kit, otherwise I'd have done it in ali and saved myself a lot of grief....Does it have to be copper?

you can solder ally with a standard blowtorch using durafix or technoweld rods .you can even solder dissimilar metals with itIt has to be solderable with standard plumbing kit, otherwise I'd have done it in ali and saved myself a lot of grief....
Can you use those rods to solder ali to copper?you can solder ally with a standard blowtorch using durafix or technoweld rods .you can even solder dissimilar metals with it
That was the method I envisaged when asking for help. @Fazerruss has offered to help, not sure what method he has in mind.As no one has suggested it, do I take it that it could not be done in a lathe with a hss boring tool? Just my curiosity not saying that is the way for OP to avoid buying specialist taps but it was the first thing that I thought of.

It is indeed too small for my smallest internal threading insert boring bar which is why I thought of HSS. Not like I am going to be able to do much else next week so I may as well try grinding a tiny little hss tool and give it a go in aluminium as I don't have any copper to play with.A 10mm internal thread is quite difficult to single point thread, simply because it is very small.
Any takers? I expect to be charged whatever you see fit.
Ive never had issues tapping copper, just use a good tap, wd40, and get it started straight. Pull out occasionally to clear swarf.
Tap might be rubbish , or blunt? Ive had similar problems with cheap dies, fixed with a decent one.
Fazerruss has already offered and we've been in contact, but thanks for the keenly-priced offer...£1000?
Can get it done and posted on monday if you need it sooner, just cover the post cost/ arrange collction. I have some copper bar.
Whats it for, through hole? and whats needed other end?
Use a drop of milk as a tapping lubricant.
Not skimmed milk, full fat.
I wish I'd thought of using brass earlier. Would have saved a lot of hassle. Never tried soldering mild steel though. You could use brass or mild steel. Both thread and solder perfectly well.
I did a search for 'M10 x 1.0 brass' and came up with plenty of hits, but none that would fit into a standard 15mm plumbing fitting, which is the easiest way to achieve what I want. Can’t help with tapping copper but looking at it from another angle brake M10x 1 brake pipe fittings are available in brass which could be soldered?

Next time....
A good idea, but next time, read the Q & A on the page...
