How do you remove the torch liner?

My mig welder has a plastic liner and I want to replace it with a metal one.

I have unscrewed the little brass thing at the welder end of the liner, but can't get the liner to pull out of the plastic block in the torch. There doesn't seem to be anything holding it in place, but no matter how hard I try I can't get it to move. What am I doing wrong?

What welder is it, if it`s one with the gas valve in the torch it might be clamped into the brass block.

Last time i replaced mine, i had a big kink in the liner from dropping something heavy on it, made it a PITA to get out, i thought i`d missed something too, same thing hasn`t happened to you has it?

It is a SIP 105 Migmate but it no longer has the original torch.

The gas valve seems to be inside a black plastic block which has a brass bit sticking out of it which the liner goes into. The liner doesn't look like it is clamped in place and there doesn't seem to be anything else holding it in place. I don't think the liner could be kinked because I have been pretty careful with it and it feels ok.

Does it look like it might have this type of arrangement - push fitting?
If so then the black plastic collar has to be pushed towards the fitting and held there while the liner is withdrawn from it.

Otherwise it's likely to be screw fitting similar to the other end. It'll not be a loose fit as it would fall out!

No, it doesn't have a fitting like that. It goes straight into the swan neck which has a hole quite a bit bigger than the liner, but it doesn't seem to be held in with anything.

I can't help feeling like I'm being a bit thick and missing something obvious.

The PVC Liner just pushes in so should pull out.

Yes, thats the one. No matter how hard I pull it, I can't get it out of the swan neck.

This morning I was holding the torch and my Dad was holding the liner at the opposite end and we had a tug of war with it, but it still wouldn't budge.

you might have melted it into place

I've tried pushing it and then pulling it, but all I have done is stretch the plastic.

Can you supply just the swan neck without the gas valve/black plastic block?

I already have a new liner, so I don't need one of those.

i have an old SIP from the 1980s that i gave up on through a similar thing. In the end i couldnt get the liner back into the wotsit properly and the wire would not feed through. Bleeding fiddly things!. no wonder euro torches are so popular.

I have cut the liner, drilled what was left of it out of the swan neck, and used my best bodging skills to fix the new liner in place. The important thing is it works and cost me nothing.
