how do i tackle these ?

i got a pair of front wings that i recently removed from
my renault 9 due to rusted spots ,on closer inspection
the rust gone deeper and deeper as it does

even though i can get new pattern wings but i heard
there are severe allignment issues with them once fitted .
so i want to get my original wings repaired instead .

here are the pics of the rust holes after the rust is removed
with a wire brush attachemnt on drill and the bare metal treated with kurust untill they can be fixed .

now what would be the proper and long lasting way to
get these repaired . most importanly where can i get them repaired ??

Hi,

aren't you going to do it yourself?

Buy a pattern wing and cut relevant sections out to patch into your original.

If you can't do it or don't fancy it then you're left with finding someone reasonably local who's willing to give it a go at a reasonable price, and that's the tricky part.

Ideally you'd want a DIY or hobby-type of person as the cost will be very low. Your local car repairers will charge a fortune.

How about asking at your local gas/welding supplies shop if they know anyone?

Pop an advert on the supermarket notice boards?

Alternatively an easy fix that'll last quite a few years is glass-fibre matting with glass-fibre paste mashed in and it sticks like crap on a blanket...

splodge it on from underneath, when it's set sand it down and apply body-filler over the top but make sure you get that painted before it can abosrb any moisture (glass-fibre doesn't absorb moisture).

For the cost of two pattern wings you could pick up a little Clarke 90 MIG ! Just carefully cut out the rusty sections then make up some templates using some card from a cereal box,read the tutorials on here on welding and DIY ! You can pick up cheap little 4" grinders for cleaning up the welds and you will no doubt use the tools again in the future

For the Renault 4 it's possible to buy wings from Renault for £35 each. Lifestyle Renault in Tumbridge Wells do mail order and are well worth a call for a price on the R9 wings. All the Renault 4 owners buy from them rather than from their unfriendly local Renault dealer.

Failing that I would tend to cut out the rusted bits, then use a cardboard template to get the exact shape of a repair piece, then cut that out of steel of the same size as the original, bend it to shape, then butt weld it into the panel.

Bit of filler on top and it's nice. Takes a little practice, and a couple or hours for each repair even when you are good at it. Haven't written a lot on here about thin metal, but this inner wing repair might be helpful.

thanks for all the replies

i dont really want to use fiberglass as i want to keep this car as long as i can but its good to know
that stuff wont attract moisture .

the main problem is ,i cant see myself buying a
welder or learning how to weld for the simple fact
that i have not got anywhere i can store it or weld stuff .than again i am a weld virgin and from what i read on this forum so far ,its not an easy job especially welding thin metal .

if there is anyone local to me (BARRY/CARDIFF/S.WALES)
that can help ,i would be gratefull .
