How do I slow down my wipers?

Thank you everyone for your replies, I tried to multi quote some of your questions, but can't work out how to do it.

Its a U1100 416, 10, 000miles on the clock and the indicator stalk looks nothing like what you posted a picture of.

I have fiddled around for ages with those four terminals. The motor is in a sod of a place to get at too.

you need to sort out the wipers not parking problem first

either it's a wiring problem or a dead duff wiper motor

if the wiper motor is duff you're wasting your time trying to get slow working


I think reducing the voltage etc. will be pretty useless, you need to give it enough power to overcome the wiper/windows friction... if you don't give it enough power the motor will overheat and burn out

From memory the wipers used to go alot slower. I took the cab off for a gearbox swap and must not have wired it back up correctly.

There are four terminals on the wiper motor, two are vacant. I will draw a circuit diagram tomorrow.

By "vacant", do you mean that these two terminals are not connected to the vehicle wiring loom?
Please measure the resistance inside the motor between these two vacant terminals, and check if either of them has any continuity to the other two motor terminals that are being used.
The two extra motor terminals could be the Park switch, or, rather than a permanent magnet, it is just possible that this motor has a wound field coil....

A series resistor will reduce the voltage at the motor, which may mean it does not have enough torque to operate the wipers. It will also waste power and heat up. An electronic motor speed controller using pulse-width modulation ( PWM ) retains torque by dividing the full voltage into variable-width pulses, e.g.:

If they are supposed to, or used to, then that suggests to me you simply have it connected up wrong.

I have the circuit diagram as it is supposed to be...but.

The truck is a former aircraft tug and almost every circuit electric or hydraulic had a lock out. So if you wanted to turn on the headlights, press that buttob, pull this switch then turn the headlight knob.

The rear tow hitch was electric over air over hyrdaulic ffs.

Think I've be tempted to work out what each terminal did what, and wire in a new switch with it's loom, bypassing the original.

That might be why the blades " jump" when I touch one of the terminals with a live.

If the wipers are already in the park position then those terminals will measure open circuit.
You might find that the internal park switch is just bridging one of the speed links when it's not parked rather than having a dedicated terminal

The simple circuit shows a live to SW does not even show a motor just a pair of wiper blades with wire going to them the diagram has parking.
Do 2 connections go shirt circuit when motor runs, and o/c when in park position
