I have got a position sensor much like this one:
It screws onto the end of a hydraulic ram for position sensing.
Its basically a coil and the metal rod pops inside the coil and then moves up and down with the ram. (Ie, goes in and out of the coil)
I was expecting the rods to be magnets but they are just plain mild steel (as far as I can tell)
There are only 2 wires on it and the cylinder itself is all plastic.
I want to measure the position somehow, I have a programmable interface that accepts variable voltage or variable resistance inputs but I presume this works on something else? Inductance maybe?
Is there a simple way to get this sensor to provide a voltage or resistance output?
