How do I figure out timing pulley specs?

Because I'm an idiot I broke the pulley for my belt sander while trying to replace the motor.

Luckily, bearing boys have a wealth of suitable looking pulleys over here:

But they all have seemingly-impenetrable definitions like "34-8M-30"...

Here's a picture of the belt, which suggests that it has 20 teeth per 10cm, so a 0.5cm pitch:

How do I translate that to a spec on the bearing boys page?

Other potentially relevant information:

The belt is stamped "150x1037"
The motor spindle diameter is 12.82mm and the broken pulley's outer diameter was 25mm

IIRC, it would be 34 (teeth) - 8M ( 8mm Pitch of teeth) - 30 (Belt width)

If you know the model number of the belt sander, it might be just as easy to look up a part number?

what belt sander is it @skotl the motor on my one died too. I am wondering if it is worth replacing it.

Make more sense if the "1" in the belt marking was an "L" and then you have all the info required for the pulley specs once you count the teeth on the pulley.

16-5M-(belt width) is what your after. Your link is for taperlock but you will need a pilot bore pulley and will need to bore out.

If you measure spindle at 12.82mm, thats a bit oversized for a 1/2" and quite undersized for 13mm! May result in too much slop with any off the shelf options.

If there is any doubt in the prognosis above, you could buy the shortest, cheapest 16-5M BELT you could find and try it on the broken pulley. A belt you throw away because you find out that the suggested specification is incorrect might be cheaper than a pulley that is no use.

Assuming he is up north, I dont know if Amazon works so well there. I'd suggest buying one of these or similar and the returns are easy and free if its incorrect.

Armed with this info I'll head back into the garage again tomorrow and do some more measuring / check the belt.

Good shout, @Kram - I had actually looked at Amazon but was more confused than on bearingboys: amazon would be much cheaper!

It's a generic Aldi/Lidl/Ferrex doodah. I have a spare motor that, when jury rigged on the roof of the unit, spins the belt (I'm less interested in the disc) at approx. the right speed so I'm going to end up mounting that up top.

I didn't even consider trying to get an original motor from Ferrex - If I can fix this with a £10 pulley then it's a go!

Are you sure that isn't 150 XL 037?

XL belt profile has a 5.08 mm pitch (0.2")

There are metric belts with a 5mm pitch - they won't run on XL pulleys (or vice versa).
