How do I connect up the gas?

Hi guys - a very simple question (I hope?). I've just got an MTA181 MIG welder. I bought a Murex regulator to go with it in anticipation of using a full sized gas cylinder but for now I want to practice with some disposable cylinders of CO2Argon I already have. I've been looking around but can't find an adaptor to couple up a disposable cylinder to a full size regulator.
Can anyone help please?

I think using a full size reg on a disposable bottle would waste more gas than you would get to use. The hoses are that much bigger than a disposable bottle setup.

You may be able to get an adaptor, not sure to be honest. One of the suppliers will probably be along later to say a deffinate yes or no.

MTA 181 eh. Thats the same as a Portamig 181, available on here from Weldequip, probably at a better price, you live and learn. You can get an adaptor kit, once again from Weldequip, he will probably pick this up and comment.

think adaption might be a little more difficult, you are going from a machine designed for industrial size cylinders and converting it to the dispoables. im sure it can be done.

Welcome SteveH, I have never seen a 5/8 bsp inlet adapted to use on disposables, sorry. Assuming you purchased the machine from the MTA outlet (Southsea) they have sensibly priced cylinders which are ideal for your practice or "proper jobs" and match with your regulator.

By the time you've worked out the optimum settings using a practice piece your disposable cylinder will be empty anyway. Not really worth the hassle IMO.
