Doing a trailer suspension mount, I have a 5"x10" plate to weld to two box sections.
I'm using two bits side by side to widen the area that the plate has to act on (to lessen the twisting motion when the brakes are applied), the first will be across the axle width of the trailer, the second bit will only be 10" long, just the same length as the plate.
I'm thinking weld along the edge (1) of the first section, then weld along (2) on the back side of it, then fit up the second box section as close as I can (grinding off the corner a little to get it as close to first box as possible) then weld (3) along the back of the second box, then (4) to join the two together.
The open ends will have plates welded over them when finished (large across two boxes and small on the other open end of the shorter box.
What would you do?
