How are these welded?

I was wondering if any of you guys could help me with explaining how these are welded?

The part where the mesh meets the frame, there is a bent piece of metal and the mesh is sandwiched between the two, I assume it's welded.

Anyone know how it's done?

Don't know for sure, but i would imagine the frames are crimped around the mesh, then possibly a few small resistance welds just to stop the mesh moving around.
Basically a current is passed through them at a point where its pinched together at the same time.

I've got that exact same pen pot in my hand now!
The top ring looks like it's simply rolled tightly round the top edge of the mesh but the bottom is a pressed cap which fits over the mesh and isn't crimped on at all but is fully attached all the way round, not just spotted.
The mesh also has a welded seam running top to bottom.
It must all be resistance welded like Hitch says, but it's very discrete.

Probably seam welded, same as resistance welding except with rollers instead of points, can be made very fast and with low-cost, low skilled labour, hence why they are cheap.
