Ive been teaching myself to weld, and have just got a nice bottle of argon with 5% Co2. Ive been rushing it a bit and trying to run before I can walk and the results have been pretty hit and miss. So ive gone back to step one and running beads.
Can you have a look at the pics below and see how Im doing?
I did this over about an hour this morning.
Clarke 135TE, 0.6mm wire, Argon/Co2 5% gas 10 litre bottle.
Power Max 1. from min 1, min 2, max 1, max 2, 30 to 130 amp range.
Wire speed about 7.
1cm wire stick out from tip. Tip dip when tip was warm.
Direction pushing towards the top with a bit of zigzag.
2mm steel sheet, was greasy. Ground with flap disk and wiped with panel wipe.
Auto darkening helmet so I can see what Im doing.
Picture 1,
Lots of beads progressing from right to left.
Top right getting things set up and lower mucking about a bit.
Left side trying to get it right and working on lowering my speed and being more consistent. Also small zigzags as I go.
Heres the back.
Weld is penetrating and just starting to blister. Is this enough penetration?
Closer on what should be the better beads.
Corner cut out to look at penetration. Seemed good.
I cant seem to get rid of the little dimple at the end of the weld.
Ive been trying to keep the torch in position after releasing the trigger but I think Im still pulling away. I understand pulling away with the trigger pressed can cause this?
Closer look at the back of what should be the better beads.
Do the beads look ok.
Seems like a lot of splatter but there are a lot of beads close together so Im sure it looks worse than if it was a single bead on the plate.
Thanks for looking and any comments.
Gordon
