This deserves it's own thread due to the mind altering superbness of build quality on a modern Rolls !! Of special interest here is the welding of the all ali body shell, seen around 5 mins or so in. It looks like pulse mig ? They make a big deal out of the skill required to do it. Enjoy.

Hello Tigler,

I remember going around the Aston Martin Newport Pagnell factory and seeing a body man butt weld two aluminium wing sections together, using oxy acetylene with no filler rod. I found that very impressive. Their attention to detail was very high as was the overall finish of the car (This was in the days before they went down market)

I have worked as a contractor for RR in the past. The whole set up is very impressive. The attention to detail is amazing

The only Astons that I find appealing are the 90's Virage series. The modern ones are just lifestyle trinkets for over privileged merchant bankers ! At one time Astons had a rep for shoddy build in places and rotted like dead dogs in the chassis box sections.

These modern Rollers are utterly superb though, it's on my shopping list if ever a Lotto win comes my way !

Hello Tigler,

The Virage is the last of the proper Astons.
They certainly did not have a reputation for shoddy build. Like all cars of the 50s to 70s, rust proofing was not a high priority however (Rolls Royce included) Maintained properly they don't have a major rust problem.

I have to say the new rolls don't appeal to me at all , they have the style of a brick. The fact alan sugar has one is something else that puts me off. if i won the lottery i'd buy one from the 50's, or a bentley continental from the same period.

I'd have a 30's Phantom III V12 AND a new Phantom !! I agree that the new one isn't the most beautiful car but I just love the build quality and attention to detail !

i did mean the LR contingent but given RR will not last half as long either

totally agree the new rollers are horrid one being built on the 7 series beemer, now that would be a terrible way to spend your money
