house wiring ..outside lamp ?

i have a outside lamp above the front door , simple on /off jobbie

id like to remove this and fit a pir lantern type thing , assume that will be a direct swap

my question is , id quiet like 2x lamps instead ...whats involved in wiring the 2nd , is it just a matter of fitting the 2nd bunch of cables in the first lamp and leap frogging onto the other or no?

If you want them to come on same time you need cable between both and connect the slave light to the pir

if the cables above the door its 2 high for using pir lanterns . 6 foot is the maximum recomended height for them so u would have to joint the cable and run 2 feeds down one to each side. either that or fit a standalone pir over the dooor and wire down to 2 standard coach lamps

yeah i would mount them about 6foot

would probably prefer independant control ....its just the joining on the second cable T peice fashion im unsure about , ive rewired cars but not touched house stuff at all

is it just a matter of suitable juntion box...existing cable in , then 2 new ones out all connected like to like?

fit a 20 amp joint box on the end of the existing cable preferably pulled back in to the house .conect 2 pieces of 1.0mm flat twin and earth cable one piece to each light . its only live neutral and earth .the other way is extend existing cable to one of the lights then loop a cable in between the 2 fittings

yes black 3 core flex will be ok

imagine we would use a normal 60-100 watt bulb max , longest one might be 5mtr or so

a piece of .75 cable or 1.0mm on a 5 amp fuse

oooh one more question ...does it have to be the solid core flex or will braided be ok

when you say braided I assume you mean muli core flex, Cost for one, whether there is vibration /movment etc, also single core is easier to get into switch connectors especially when trying to get multi connections into one terminal. the current capacity is virtually the same as it is the cross section area of copper that is vital. Also multi strand has a slightly greater total dia dia for the same cross sectional area also flex insulation is thicker to take the 'flexing'
