Hotpoint tumble driers

Argh!!!!!

We've been waiting 18 months for Hotpoint to come and fix the known fault with our Tumble dryer, you know the fault where it can catch fire and burn your house down as reported on BBC's Watchdog, anyway the service guy turns up and has a look and then asks if we have a certificate from an Electrician for the dryer.

He didn't seem to know what certificate, I suggested a PAT test but got a noncommittal reply, anyway he rang someone and then announced he can't fix it and drove off.

Suffice to say I'll never buy anything by Hotpoint ever again.

what don't it just plug in?

I too waited over a year then decided enough and paid £50 for a brand new better model condensing dryer they delivered it and I still have the old faulty one too

We got a replacement from hotpoint, paid £69 for a new one no questions asked. As the dryer was 2 years old seemed like a good deal. I would contact their customer services and ask about it. Their fault is still in the dryer and if it goes up it will be on their toes.

We didn't need any certificate. once we reported that our dryer was within the range of suspected models, hotpoint offered to either carry out the retrofit or if we paid about 50 quid we could have a new dryer. we chose new as ours was nearly 3 years old and used daily.

We had ours replaced under the deal mentioned above about 8 months ago - the replacement has now failed and we are waiting for the man to come and fix it.

I was under the impression it was fluff build up on the elements, caused by the user not cleaning the filter regularly. Or have I got that wrong?

We had a dryer that was one of the affected models, got the offer to either wait 420 million years to get it fixed, or we could choose a replacement (either conventional for 50 or condensing for 99)

Seeing as our dryer at this point was 10 years old it was a no-brainer, got a brand new dryer, and a much better model than our old one, and it came in a few weeks.

Part of the fire problem was people leaving their driers running unattended (overnight, or whilst out) which we wouldn't do anyway.

We never run ours either unattended either, partly because of the known problem with them overheating and catching fire and mainly because we don't think it's a good idea to leave them unattended.

While regular filter cleaning would have helped, there were a couple of areas that were inaccessible without casing removal where fine particles (that could pass through the filter) could build up. Or so I was told.

Yeah, I asked the guy what the problem was and he said it was a potential for fluff to buildup by a seal where one part rotates and the other is stationary, allowing for friction to heat up the fluff causing it to catch fire.

Ours is only a couple of years old so I refuse to pay to replace it because of a design/manufacturing fault.

It's Hotpoint who designed this thing badly, they should either fix it for free (in a timely manner) or offer a free replacement or offer a full refund so I can choose what machine I want, not what they want to foist on me.

Have an Indicet version same sort of poor service was offered a £29 replacement inquired why could I not pick it up from depot 10 miles away rather than one 30 + then told if I wanted to collect it was Now Southampton WTF (note it says not available in all arias)
Not a good year regarding our white goods, new dish washer, washing machine then the TD scare, still awaiting delivery of replacement .
The guy who delivered the washer said he was asked what you did with the FELT filter in the Tumble dryer to clean it
Beloved is paranoid regarding cleaning the thing any how & vacuums the vent slot with a long crevice tool
