Getting round to putting that new hotend on, & I've got a new heater to put in there, (the old one is well & truly stuck in the old hotend. Couple of questions.
Firstly, the replacement has unterminated cable ends. Will I be okay to snip the termination end off the old cable, solder to the new heater & insulate the joints with heatshrink? Can't see there being any notable heat or other issues at the connector end? This bit:

Secondly, does the heater need any thermal paste applying, or does it just go in the hotend block clean, as is?

Yes, it's okay to do that, no, there's no heat issue there, & yes, it goes in unpasted?
