hot water and windscreens

I tip luke warm water over my frozen windscreen to clear it,i have for years to no ill effect. My only precaution is to tip it along the edge of the roof where the screen and roof meet to take the sting out. My question is will this crack a windscreen in good condition?

Works well, trick I have found to pour it slow so the heat has time to soak in and keep it ice free before the screen cools again.

If the water is warm/hot and not boiling, should be no problems. 40-60c works well. Give it 20 seconds to warm the window then use wipers to get the excess off before it freezes.

Simple answer....if you are worried about doing it...then dont....I have seen screens cracked by the pouring of hot water on them..not pretty...

I’ve done it for years with no I’ll effect, I think glass is higher quality these days than it once was, but if there are any chips or cracks I could see things going wrong.

i had done the hot water thing for years ,,, till I had one just make the smallest click ,, that was it , a stone chip was now a crack right down the screen ,,, these days i use a bottle of meths ,, works fine, I wont even use cold water now just in case

Lukewarm water In a milk bottle for me. Doesn't need to be hot/warm. Just warmer than the ice.

I briefly lift the wipers so they are free. Turn em on and chuck water over. Being a van the windscreen is steep and the wipers clear the water before it refreezes.

Did see someone using a kettle the other day. Bet he had a cold drive to work

Snow is an insulator. Left the overnight snow Sunday on the windscreen. When I needed the van Wednesday morning I brushed the snow off to a nice ice free screen.

I've used hot water for years with no problems I trickle it very slowly from the top edge and let it run down and it demists the inside at the same time.

I have to tip it over the daft self folding wing mirrors too im frightened if the motors try to fold them out when frozen something will let go

This ^^ hot water out of tap in a food bag, works amazingly well, no mess and no risk of cracking.

Pee works. Though I might have to pee into a bucket first these days

Had to resort to pee to get in my lockup last winter. Padlocks frozen solid. Last minute decision. Normally take some warm water up with me
