Zircotec sell coatings and heatshields. I've used their heatshielding in an industrial application and it's very good.

Hot steering rack gaiters?

Reading up on wrapping it seems that the problems with destruction of the pipes are associated with manifolds that are completely wrapped and this cooks the steel. I've ordered a long roll of the stuff and will wrap just the 10 inches or so that will run near the gaiters. Hopefully it will prevent the gaiters cooking and not cause the pipes to fail.

Another thought is can you get silicon gaiters as they would withstand a lot more heat than rubber.

These new ones are from Bailcast. Neoprene, I think. Much stretchier material.

Job done! £2.50 for 10 metres of the stuff, including postage. Chineeze, obviously, but you can't argue with that sort of price. Included some stainless steel ties as well.
